Recognizing Excellence in Nursing
Monday, May 22, 2006

Marie McIntosh, RN, was named St. Francis’ Nurse (RN) of the Year, and Lindsey Baxley, LPN, also a nurse in St. Francis’ ICU, was named LPN of the Year at St. Francis’ annual Nurse of the Year reception on May 10.

McIntosh joined St. Francis in 1991 as a nurse technician in Telemetry, later earning her RN and transferring to the ICU/CCU. She has worked exclusively in the ICU for 10 years. Though currently working on a bachelor’s degree in nursing, she plans to pursue a master’s degree in the future. McIntosh also acts as a mentor to new nurses through the hospital’s nurse preceptor program and is a past chairwoman of St. Francis’ Quality Council.

Baxley joined St. Francis’ ICU in 2004. She is currently enrolled in the registered nurse program at Chattahoochee Valley Community College. She has been a team leader for the American Heart Walk and a participant in the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Relay for Life.

Nurse of the Year nominees are selected based on character, leadership ability, educational achievement and community service. McIntosh and Baxley were two of seven finalists. Others included Verna Daley-Evans, RN; Juanita Fields, RN; Cindy Kinney, RN; Gloria Thomas, RN; and Debbie Jacobs, LPN.
