Center for Breast Health Adds Program to Help Breast Cancer Patients Better Understand Medical Process
Tuesday, April 06, 2010

The Elena Diaz-Verson Amos Center for Breast Health has installed a patient navigation software program to ensure that patients are easily tracked as they go through the diagnostic and treatment process for breast cancer. Such tracking allows the patient at the Center for Breast Health to be monitored by the Center’s dedicated Breast Health Navigator, Nancy Reeder, RT, CMA.

The navigator’s monitoring ensures that the patients are moved quickly to diagnosis and do not have to wait for days on end for a diagnosis. Also, once a patient is diagnosed, all of her breast cancer plan of care is held in Priority Consult so that the navigator can work with the patient on a daily basis for anything they need to coordinate their treatment or access to treatment providers.

No other breast center in Georgia has Priority Consult for their patients. Installation of Priority Consult is just another step by the Elena Diaz-Verson Amos Center for Breast Health to offer demonstrated, state of the art technology and care to its patients.

Priority Consult Breast Care was developed in combination with the nationally renowned St. John Health Breast Program of Detroit. “It was imperative that the system be easy to use, highly customizable and beneficial to patients, staff, nurse navigators and breast care physician,” said Dr. Cheryl Wesen, FACS, director, St. John Breast Care Program.

Priority Consult Breast Care is a patient workflow and clinical tracking software application designed to support a nurse navigation approach to breast care. Effective patient tracking within a breast center is essential for a successful nurse navigator. Priority Consult provides them with the tools to improve efficiency and productivity in the management of breast care patients. Priority Consult's workflow and queuing system ensures that breast center clinical staff and administrators know the status and next step of every patient within the program. Patients are tracked from initial abnormal imaging through biopsy, pathology, treatment and follow-up.

The Center for Breast Health’s department of radiology offers expert physicians and staff, state-of-the-art facilities, and advanced diagnostic and treatment techniques for breast cancer patients in the Columbus area. The center is located in the Rosemont Health Center at 3720 Woodruff Road.
