NewsDr. Jeff Travis Among Georgia Trend’s 2010 Hospital Heroes Friday, December 03, 2010 Cardiothoracic surgeon Jeff Travis, MD, of Columbus Cardiovascular Associates, has been named a 2010 Hospital Hero by "Georgia Trend" magazine. The magazine featured Dr. Travis and three other hospital heroes in its October issue. Dr. Travis received the recognition for leading quality and safety improvements at St. Francis, including efforts to reduce surgical site infection rates. The hospital received the Georgia Hospital Association’s Josh Nahum-First Place Award for Achievement in Infection Prevention and Control in 2008 for attaining a zero percent infection rate for deep sternal wounds. Dr. Travis has also been instrumental in developing plans to create a new world-class cardiac care unit at St. Francis. Construction is expected to begin in 2011. Most recently, Dr. Travis has supported efforts to engage internationally-known LifeWings™ consultants to further improve patient safety and clinical quality at St. Francis. The third phase of Crew Resource Management (CRM) training, emphasizing teamwork and strengthening communication skills, was completed in September and October. Having joined St. Francis’ Medical Staff in 2005, Dr. Travis is Chief of the Department of Surgery at St. Francis.
